The Foundation
A foundation for a young field
The Foundation for the Advancement of Applied Transpersonal Psychology, ATPF for short, was established on 16 March 2017 in Utrecht, the Netherlands, by Hans TenDam. It is a not-for-profit foundation under Dutch law.
Why it exists
Regression therapy and the wider field of transpersonal psychology are young. Much of their literature was published in small editions, by practitioners rather than publishers, in several languages, and is now out of print. The first professional association of regression therapists, APRT, later IARRT, in the United States, has ceased to exist; many of its books and recordings were collected from the United States after its demise.
The foundation's goal is the international advancement of transpersonal psychology in general and regression therapy in particular. More specifically, it aims to further solid professional practice in a young and controversial field.
What it aims to do
The foundation seeks to achieve this through the following:
- Archive and make accessible documents in this field, including books, articles, conference proceedings and research material.
- Stimulate documentation of professional practices and techniques, as well as scientific research on the methods and results of applied transpersonal psychology.
- Award grants to researchers, publicists and students in this field.
- Spread knowledge through lectures, publications and the Internet.
The library
At the heart of the foundation is an international library on regression therapy and other transpersonal therapy, collected by Hans TenDam while he prepared his book Exploring Reincarnation and during his decades as a teacher and writer on regression therapy. It includes historical material from APRT, later IARRT, the first professional association of regression therapists, and physical and digital material from the first world congresses of regression therapists. Many books and recordings came from the United States after the demise of IARRT.
The library is being catalogued. The catalogue is online, with a note for each title on whether it is physically in the collection. The foundation intends to make the works available later, physically or digitally; its first priority is to digitise important out-of-print works that are not available elsewhere. The collection is housed on Mallorca in the care of board member Timm Christophel.
How it works
The foundation operates independently, but in close co-operation with EARTh, the Earth Association for Regression Therapy, the professional association that Hans TenDam helped found in 2006. It is governed by a board of four, chaired by its founder; the board serves without remuneration and the foundation has no staff.
The foundation does not itself offer therapy, sessions or training. Its board members work in their own practices and schools, independently of the foundation.
Researchers, writers and students who want to propose a project, offer documents to the library, or ask about a grant can write to info@atp-foundation.org. There is no application form: a short letter describing the work and what is needed is the right first step.
